About my area

The Périgord Vert is famous for its beautiful countryside, pretty villages, stunning château's and prehistoric caves. The region is rich in local produce including truffles, fois gras, duck and goose, walnuts and escargot! To the north of my area you will find deep valley landscaping and to the south, more gentle rolling countryside. The area that I cover includes the Capital of the Dordogne, the historic town of Périgueux; St Jean de Côle, which holds the official accolade of being one of the prettiest villages in France and of course Thiviers, my favourite market town, famous for it's connection with foie gras!

About me

We made the move to the Dordogne in December 2007. What seemed a slightly crazy decision at the time, we sold our house, packed up our belongings and headed across the channel. With three children (then aged 2, 3 & 5), a boisterous Boxer dog and a noisy Siamese cat in tow and nowhere to go, we eventually found our little piece of paradise in the Périgord Vert. We all love it here, we have four proper seasons, the children have more freedom, they are never short on things to do as there is always something going on in the town; we are fully integrated with the local community and have made so many lovely friends. Moving to France was one of our better ideas!
