We are very fortunate to be living in the beautiful countryside of the Hautes Pyrenees, with the wonderful ski slopes of St Lary, Bagnerres de Bigorre, La Mongie, Pia Engly, Perigudes all just over 1 hr away, where skiing is almost a must in the winter with hiking & cycling in the summer. With the famous Tour de France passing our doorstep each summer. Visit the spa & Lakes of Loudenville, where in the summer you can partake in water sports on the lake, or just relax with a walk. Enjoy the many weekly markets in place around the local villages, where you can buy your fresh goods, bread, veg, fish & you can also take an empty bottle to be filled up with a choice of local wine. Sit in a cafe have a coffee and watch the world go by. The medieval town of Marciac is a must-see in the summer, for its Jazz festivals. it plays host to some top music stars, Jamie Cullen Nora Jones, Sting has even put in an appearance. Even if you are not a Jazz fan, the ambiance alone is worth the visit. Enjoy a meal in one of the wonderful village restaurants where you can have a 3-course meal with wine for around 15euros. We are lucky also to have the famous internationally renowened rugby player Antoine Dupont living on our doorstep where he is opening his restaurant this summer 2021. Pay a visit to Lourdes in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains. It’s known for the Sanctuaires Notre-Dame de Lourdes, or the Domain, a major Catholic pilgrimage site. Each year, millions visit the Grotto of Massabielle (Grotto of the Apparitions) where, in 1858, the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to a local woman. Auch is steeped in history it is known for its Renaissance Cathédrale Sainte-Marie with its magnificent organ, carved stalls and rose stained-glass windows, La Tour d'Armagnac – a 14th-century prison, as well as a statue of d'Artagnan After all your sightseeing relax by visiting a spa in either Bagnerees de Bigorre, Loudenville or Capvern. If relaxing in a spa is not your thing, then you try paragliding or white water rafting. Whatever you chose there are lots of things to see and do in our beautiful region. With easy access back to the UK from Toulouse or Tarbes airport. Toulouse, is the capital of France’s southern Occitanie region, the city itself is on the banks of the River Garonne, not to mention that it is the centre of the European aerospace industry, with the headquarters of Airbus
My husband & I moved to this region in 2003. I'm originally from Swansea & my husband is from Bucks. I was previously a manager for a credit company. We decided to move to France after renovating 2 houses in the UK. We love the warm weather, laid-back lifestyle and space, lots of space. We are still in the process of renovating our second house here in France. With 2 children both born in France, & my husband's day job as a builder/ landscaper, we are being kept very busy. We have lots of experience working with tradesmen, both French & British & we can call upon a team of very reliable roofers, plumbers & electricians. I love to ski when i get time, and nipping up the mountain for a days skiing is very easy to do in a day. Even nicer to go with a girlfriend find a B&B and stay the night for 2 days skiing. Popping back to the UK is also very easy with Toulouse just about 1hr 15 mins away & Tarbes Lourdes even closer 50 mins away.
