About me

Born and raised in Peru, lived in New York, London, and Andalucia, now settled in
Montmorillon. In 2016, we were both working from home, so we left the UK looking for better
quality of life and cost of living value for money. After seven years of trying out Brett’s
Spanish dream (he had lived there in his youth), we concluded we had given it a good go,
but it was time to move on. Being used to moving around and adapting to different cultures,

About my area

Montmorillon sits between Poitiers and Limoges, with their international airports, and is well-
connected to Paris by high-speed trains from either city. Surrounded by vast areas of
beautiful rolling hills, expansive pastures and big skies in every direction, the bucolic
landscapes evoque 19th century paintings and the natural biodiversity makes it an ideal
playground for nature lovers.
Predominantly agricultural, the area is home to the Limousin cow and the Poitevine lamb,

Being used to moving around and adapting to different cultures,
we decided to pursue my French dream. The original dream would have taken place
somewhere in Provence, but our reality pushed us towards other areas. In a way,
Montmorillon found us, enticing us with the perfect house that ticked all our boxes but was
just slightly outside our search area. Turns out the town, in addition to being beautiful, ticked
all our boxes too. We haven’t looked back and are glad we ended up here.
We’re busier than ever but our day to day is fulfilling and rewarding. Intertwined with work
are gardening and home improvement projects (which, this time around, do not include
completely gutting a house). Even in the middle of a busy day, I can sit down at a café in a
quaint town square, admire the buildings, the flowers, the birds, wave back at the waving
farmers, watch stuff around me slowly roll along and enjoy a 45-minute mini-holiday! We
take our dog on countryside walks every day, and the cat gets up to all kind of mischief in
the garden and surrounding farmyards. We pick fruit from our garden all summer and have a
‘potager’ that’s hard to keep up with. We’re foodies and love the quality of the food and
produce available. And the cheeses... don’t get me started. On warm summer evenings, we
pop into town for a pint or a glass of wine, especially riverside in summer, and year-round for
meals at one of the eateries. We have created a great life in France and we can only see it
getting better and better. close

Predominantly agricultural, the area is home to the Limousin cow and the Poitevine lamb,
and boasts an impressive variety of goat cheeses. The town is a commercial and
administrative hub that bustles with activity. It provides all the facilities for modern living, and
its picturesque medieval centre is a quaint cultural haven for visitors and locals alike. In
terms of property, the area offers the best value for money and the market holds many
hidden gems!
Known as The City of Books and Writing, Montmorillon’s well-preserved architectural
enclave hosts many book and craft shops, galleries and ateliers. There’s an annual book-
fair, as well as summer festivals, concerts and activities for all ages and likes. The weather is
mild (winter and summer) and the people welcoming and helpful.
Its schools and lycées make Montmorillon a perfect base for young families, and holiday
makers are attracted to its ‘off the beaten path’ feel. Many foreigners of all ages also choose
to settle here, as it offers the perfect balance of practical living and quaint enjoyment in a
tranquil environment where the pace of life is just right. close
