Culinary highlights are the local fortified wine, Pineau, with the famous Cognac and Bordeaux wines also widely available. Many local producers in the area supply the markets, restaurants and épiceries with cheeses, honey, seasonal fruits and vegetables, eggs, breads, cakes, and meats. Unassuming French restaurants and traditional cafes are peppered around and offer a slice of France unchanged by commercialism.
The climate benefits from long summers and mild winters. The atmosphere is generally low in humidity, and clear blue skies are frequent.
Located midway between Poitiers and Angoulême and en route to Paris or Bordeaux via road or TGV, plus international airports at Limoges, Poitiers and Bordeaux, the area offers plenty of options for access and further adventures making this a wonderful area for holidays, investment, retirement or a permanent home.
