Having lived and worked in London for nearly twelve years, but brought-up in rural Sussex, my wife and I decided that it was time to hang up the city suits and head back to the countryside looking for the freedom and open space of our childhoods. Having lived and worked in London for nearly twelve years, but brought-up in rural Sussex, my wife and I decided that it was time to hang up the city suits and head back to the countryside looking for the freedom and open space of our childhoods. With a two year old daughter in tow and Sharon six months pregnant we upped sticks and made the move that we had been planning for several years to rural France, hoping that it would live up to our dreams. Having made the leap we have relaxed into a new slower stress-free way of life, and I thoroughly enjoy helping other people realise their own French Dream.

I live in the Perigord Vert, northern Dordogne which, as the name suggests is an extremely green and very beautiful part of south west France. I live in the Perigord Vert, northern Dordogne which, as the name suggests is an extremely green and very beautiful part of south west France. It remains relatively undiscovered despite being within the Dordogne and is incredibly tranquil with lots of wildlife, undulating green countryside, forests, lakes and pretty villages. This really is rural France and has everything that you would expect from rural French living - wonderful food; great wine; long lunches; fantastic walking; lots of cycling; summer festivals; village dances and the pleasurable contentment that a slower pace of life brings. There is a strong feeling of community, which extends to the warm welcome that visitors receive. Whether it is local people sharing tips on mushroom picking; neighbours donating chickens for your garden or the local mayor helping to unblock your drains (all of these things have happened to us!) there is a comfortable ease and simplicity to living or holidaying here which is a tonic to modern living. Our area is set almost centrally between the beautiful cities of Angouleme, Limoges and Perigueux, each around a hour away with great shopping, restaurants and historical buildings. There are pretty towns scattered across the region with beautiful chateaux and ancient churches to explore. The stunning 'Venice of the Dordogne' - Brantome, is also within easy striking distance. Limoges airport is served by both Ryan Air and Flybe, with flights to the UK taking just over an hour.
