About my area

My area covers the eastern part of the Dordogne department, which comprises Perigord Noir in the south, and Perigord Vert further North. This region is a wonderful part of France. It is essentially very rural in character. The northern part is less well-known, less touristy and properties still represent very good value for money. It is essentially very rural in character. The northern part is less well-known, less touristy and properties still represent very good value for money. The main towns here are Lanouaille, Excideuil, Thenon and Hautefort. The south of this region includes Sarlat, Domme, Montignac and Les Eyzies and is deservedly renowned for its truly spectacular scenery, fairytale castles, and of course the Dordogne River itself.

The region is easily accessible via airports at Bergerac, Limoges and a new airport is soon to be opened near to Souillac.

Life here has proved to be even better than I had dreamed possible. All the clichés are true. The food is superb, the wine is wonderful and the climate is delightful with long summers and sunny dry winters. The countryside is breathtakingly beautiful with rolling hills and valleys, ancient limestone cliffs and prehistoric caves, and two main rivers; the Dordogne, the Vezere, with its tributary the Auvezere. The rich history of this region is ever-present, the air is incredibly clean and nature surrounds you at every step. It is possible to visit wonderful markets virtually any day of the week, and you will find a village fete nearby almost every weekend throughout most of the year. Here you really can live in stress-free environment. Most importantly of all, the people are absolutely charming and unbelievably welcoming and friendly.
