I live in southwest France, on the border of three departments, Lot-et-Garonne, Dordogne and the Gironde. There are people of many nationalities living here which makes everyone feel welcome and brings vibrance and diversity. At the same time, the location retains all of the typical charm, character, and culture that is so special about rural France. We have thriving Bastide towns with cafés, shops, and restaurants and weekly markets. The countryside is undulating with trees and of course there are vineyards everywhere – the world-renowned Saint-Émilion is easily reachable for a day trip. Character stone houses and glorious chateau are everywhere. The colours of the countryside are beautiful in all seasons, and we have golden sunflower fields in summer. The stunning Dordogne River runs through the region, offering the chance for boat trips and canoeing, and the Atlantic coast is only a couple of hours away. We are fortunate to benefit from a rural, peaceful setting, and yet at the same time have excellent links to fabulous Bordeaux and Bergerac with airports and the TGV with its fast trains to Paris and beyond.
I first visited this area of France as part of a tour of Europe with my husband in our new motorhome. We had sold our property in Scotland and planned a long road trip, searching for a new place to put down roots and call home. Having spent several months here in 2019, we fell under the spell of this region and bought our new home in 2021. Prior to this, I had taken early retirement from my career in finance and project management, where, in the final years I was head of the programme office for rollout of internet fibre in the UK. Having bought our home and begun our new life in this fabulous area, my husband and I started a property management business. I am now bringing my skills, experience and enthusiasm to Leggett and am committed to helping others find their dream property and experience life in this beautiful part of France.
