Character property manoir to renovate on 13 hectares

This character property, dating back to the mid-13th century, was once owned by a prominent family of wealthy merchants from Cahors, who were ennobled in 1325. It is closely associated with Pierre des Prés, who rose to become Bishop, Archbishop and later Cardinal in the early 14th century.

Expanded and enhanced between the 13th and 14th centuries, the property retains remarkable examples of medieval architecture that reflect its prestigious past. Carefully remodelled during the 18th century while preserving its authenticity, it now stands as an outstanding example of Quercy's rich architectural and historical heritage.

This historic property dates back to the mid-13th century. It originally belonged to a wealthy family of merchants from Cahors, who acquired extensive estates in the surrounding area. The family was ennobled in 1325 and rose to prominence through Pierre des Prés, who was appointed Bishop of Riez in 1318, Archbishop of Aix-en-Provence in 1319, and Cardinal in 1320.

The building underwent two major phases of construction. The first, in the mid-13th century, saw the creation of a rectangular manor house, with its main living quarters located on the upper floor. The second, around 1315–1320, introduced elegant twin Gothic windows with trefoil tracery, reflecting both the family's growing wealth and the refinement of Gothic architecture at the time.

Following the family's ennoblement and Pierre des Prés' appointment to high ecclesiastical office, the manor appears to have ceased serving as the family's principal residence from around 1320–1325 onwards. Later alterations, particularly during the 18th century, enhanced the property while preserving its historic character and architectural significance. Today, it stands as a remarkable testament to the medieval heritage of the Quercy region.
