The convent of the English Benedictine nuns (also known as the Couvent des Filles-Anglaises) was founded in 1664 and its remains are located at 28, rue des Tanneries. A group of seven English Benedictine nuns fleeing Catholic persecution settled in Paris in 1651. The nuns bought a plot of land and then extended their domain in 1686 . The cells and cloister were built in 1693. The community's first superior was Brigitte More, a descendant of the writer Thomas More (1478-1535). From 1774 onwards, the penniless nuns produced pastilles and mint alcohol. Visit the Convent's own Wikipedia page as a historic 17th century building with a listed courtyard.

13th arrondissement - Known as arrondissement des Gobelins" (meaning district of tapestries), on the Left Bank of the River Seine, is a relatively uncharted area of Paris that's exemplary of a shifting contemporary Paris known for it’s calm vibe, public parks, and inexpensive eateries. The area notably houses the sprawling ultramodern National Library, the Butte aux Cailles one of Paris' lesser-known neighborhoods that's beloved by locals but overlooked by tourists, with its narrow cobblestone streets featuring quirky restaurants, cafes and boutiques but lacking global chain stores, its art deco architectural heritage, and its throwback Paris ambiance, definitely a place to come if you're looking for something relatively unexplored. A lively Chinatown (one of Paris's largest, and major site for Chinese New Year celebrations in Paris) and Manufacture des Gobelins (tapestries manufacturing museum) and the modernist Place d’Italie is the site of one of the most ambitious French urban renewal projects, The district is also rapidly growing in business activity, thanks to the new business district of Paris Rive Gauche and is home to engineering graduate schools, Arts et Métiers and Télécom ParisTech.
