Surrounding area:

The Lot is a delightful and un-spoilt department of France, the area is beautiful, with landscapes of forests, undulating hills, rivers and wild flowers. The Lot is also famed for its lovely towns and villages, with many villages boasting the accolade of being amongst the most beautiful in France.

Cabrerets is a small, quaint, quiet village on the Célé river a few kilometres north of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie in the Lot department of France and contains one of the most visited caves in France, the Grotte de Pech Merle. You can also see two castles, Chateau des Anglais, or the Chateau de Diable to give it its alternative name and the main Château de Cabrerets on the edge of the village centre, on a raised promontory overlooking the river. The village also has restaurants, shops and schools nearby.
The Grotte de Pech Merle is the principal attraction in the village Cabrerets and attracts a large number of visitors every year. It is one of the few caves in France where you can still see the original cave paintings. Developed over two levels, the cave complex at Grotte de Pech Merle is very extensive, with a visit exploring more than one kilometre of tunnels (there are six kilometres in total). During a visit you will see a very large number of cave paintings including animals such as bisons and horses and paintings of people as well as extensive rock formations such as stalactites and stalagmites. One particular highlight is the footprints of a small child, preserved undisturbed for more than 10000 years.
The famous village of Saint Cirq-Lapopie, which is accorded the accolade of being one of the most beautiful villages in France, is only 15 minutes’ drive away, and is very popular with tourists.
The transport network is excellent, with easy access to motorways and rail travel. The area is also well located for the airports of Toulouse, Brive, Rodez, Limoges, Bergerac; all within 1 to 3 hours’ drive.

Excellent shopping facilities are available in Cahors and Toulouse with everyday shops, hospital, schools and services readily accessible in the towns of the local area.

The property is also within easy reach of the Lot Valley and the towns of Cajarc and Figeac.

There are local markets in the nearby towns and villages.

At certain times of the year there are occasional evening ‘producteurs’ markets in the surrounding towns and villages where food and wine can be bought and eaten at large trestle tables, accompanied by music and dancing; creating a lovely, welcoming, party atmosphere.

Sightseeing in the area is extensive, with opportunities to explore the dramatic castles and old ‘bastide’ towns. There are also local water sports available, including canoeing on the Lot and Cele rivers. Also, there are available cruises and boat hire along the Lot river.

An ideal location!

DPE test on going.
