Built in 1850, this light and airy, three-storey property is in an ideal holiday location close to ski resorts and the Atlantic coast. The property is located in the beautiful Béarn region in the Vallée d’Ossau, famous for the river Ossau (the Gave d’Ossau) and the local sheep’s cheese, Ossau-Iraty. The city of Pau is 35km north of the property – the Pyrénées ski resorts and Spanish border are to the south. If you fancy a day on the beach in Biarritz or St-Jean-de-Luz, the Atlantic coastal resorts are under two hours away - and the pretty Basque farming villages with their distinctive white houses and dark red shutters are just an hour away.

The larger gîte:

The larger gîte looks opens on to the car park and front garden area and the smaller gîte opens on to the garden to the side and rear of the property. There is ample room for installing a swimming pool, if desired.


The advantage of this lovely house is the flexibility of the layout of the property. By combining the two units, the new owners could create a huge family house with up to ten bedrooms. The new owner can rent out one gîte and live in the other, with the possibility of using one, two or three of the bedrooms for Bed and Breakfast. The nearby towns of Laruns, Louvie-Juzon, Sévignacq-Meyracq, Arudy and Nay are all easily accessible from the village. All the towns have a good choice of supermarkets, restaurants and bars. Arudy has a market every Tuesday and Saturday morning; Laruns has a weekly market every Saturday morning and evening markets during the summer. For a much bigger choice of shops and amenities, the city of Pau is about 30 minutes away. There is also a university at Pau.

The area has many excellent schools and children are transported to school by bus if they go to school away from the village. There is also a regular bus to Pau, which leaves from Gourette and passes through the village.

The village is in the Vallée d’Ossau, which extends to the Spanish border in the Pyrénées, where you can ski at Gourette, or catch a small open train at Artouste to travel high into the mountains. The GR10 is accessible at Gourette and it is possible to join the Chemin de St-Jacques-de-Compostelle at Arudy to join the main route at the Medieval market town of Oloron-Ste-Marie.
