This lovely chalet is built in a classic style over three floors and sits at the beginning of the ascent to Les Deux Alpes next to the Barrage du Chambon. Instantly appealing are the spectacular views over the Lake and the surrounding mountains.
On entering the ground floor we find a modern tiled lounge area with dining facilities and a recessed fitted kitchen. From the lounge we enter the double bedroom which has ample storage space. From this we enter a spacious fully tiled en-suite shower room with sink and toilet.
There is an internal stairway connecting the ground floor to the first floor. This can be closed off to allow use of the ground floor as a separate apartment. Both the lounge area and bedroom have large windows to the front letting in lots of natural light. Heating in this part of the building is by electric radiators.
We access the first floor via a small sun terrace to the side of the building. Entering from the terrace we find a brightly lit lounge area with tiled floor and a fireplace facing towards the entrance. To the left of this is the kitchen dining area. At the opposite end of the lounge there is another door leading out onto the garden terrace. Here we find a large paved area with porch and a stepped fruit and vegetable garden leading up to a large garden shed.
Access to the second floor bedroom and en-suite bathroom is via a wooden staircase connecting to the lounge. Here we find a large double attic bedroom featuring the natural wooden beams of the roof structure. A velux window adds to the natural light coming from a double glass door leading on to a small balcony with spectacular views overlooking the lake and surrounding mountains.
From the bedroom we enter a spacious en-suite bathroom with toilet and large fitted corner bath. The walls are tiled and there is a wooden floor with wooden furnishings. There is a concealed space for a washing machine to the rear of the room.
This charming chalet sits at the foot of the 10 minute climb to the ski station of Les Deux Alpes overlooking the Lac du Chambon. From here it is 15 minutes by car to Le Bourg d’Oisans and 30 minutes to the Ski station of Alpe d’Huez and for cyclists its famous 21 bend climb, made famous by the Tour de France.
Les Deux Alpes is a vibrant ski resort both summer and winter as it profits from having the largest skiable glacier in Europe. Les Deux-Alpes is a long, narrow town sitting on a high col. As you enter from the north you pass through an area centred on the tourist office; from here, roads go off left up to Les 2 Alpes 1800; go straight on instead, and you come to the town centre, with the major gondola stations, outdoor ice rink and lots of shops and restaurants; at this point you enter a long one-way system, and finally come to Alpe de Venosc.
The six-day ski pass covers La Grave and gives two days in Alpe-d’Huez and a day in Serre-Chevalier (an hour away) as well as other resorts.
Having a car is handy to make the most of these options. There are day-trip buses twice a week to Alpe-d’Huez, but a better plan would be to spend the 70 euros on the splendid helicopter day trip available in the winter.
Les Deux Alpes is high, snow-sure, has varied slopes, including the extensive glacier. There is lots of good off-piste terrain with
stunning views of the Ecrins National Park’s high southern peaks.
Le Bourg d’Oisans effectively forms the entrance to the Ecrins National Park, The town of Bourg d’Oisans is very lively both summer and winter. In the summer it is a hub for Hikers and sports enthusiasts.
For road cyclists in particular it is the mecca of the Southern Alps as it sits at the bottom of the famous 21 bend climb to Alpe d’Huez, made famous by the Tour De France. Many other well known cycle routes can be accessed easily from this point for example the well known cols (mountain passes) such as the Galibier, Lautaret, the Croix de Fer, and Glandon
