Saint Bon at 1100 meters altitude is a typical old mountain village, the “chef lieu” of Courchevel, with original stone houses surrounded by pastures and the forest with its many paths leading to different nearby villages. Many homes once were working barns before the change in activity of most local families from farming to tourism. The village is criss-crossed with small roads and passageways providing a beautiful, calm environment.
The village of Saint Bon itself has the Courchevel Mairie (Town Hall), an atmospheric Pizza restaurant, a small supermarket, a ski shop and a local farmer selling cheese directly from their dairy. The free, seasonal resort bus (or 2 minutes drive) takes you to the village of Le Praz where the télécabine or chair lift then whisks you away to the vast ski area of the 3 valleys.
Le Praz is a beautiful village and offers 5 great restaurants and bars, several food and ski shops and the Tabac/ post office and a hotel as well as a lovely lake and cross-country skiing in winter. The Ski Jumps from the 1992 Olympics are here so you can while away the time watching children from the age of 6 and national teams flying through the air. Nearby, and also on the free bus route, you have the other 4 main villages of Courchevel giving you a wide range of restaurants from snack bars to Michelin stars and shopping from basic foods stuffs to luxury goods. During the summer Courchevel runs free ski lifts during July and August, Aquamotion opens for 3 months over summer and you have direct walking access to the forests and mountain path that meander in any direction you choose. Locally there are lakes and, of course the mountains, to explore on foot or mountain bikes. For the road bikes, you can head up from your door to the now famous Col de la Loze used as a finish in the 2020 Tour de France.
