Set in over a hectare of land in the beautiful Creuse countryside, this exceptional property will make a magnificent family home with income potential from the two, two bedroom Gites and the seven ensuite bedrooms in the main house. Read more ...

There has been a family home, or Chateau, on this site since the 10th Century. The Original Chateau was burned down in 1635 and a new house was built.
In the Mid 1800's the property was inherited by one of the Master stonemasons that were responsible for re building Paris after the Revolution and the house was completed in 1875 along the lines of a Parisian 'Townhouse'.
During the second world war the house was used as a safe haven for various groups escaping from or fighting the Nazi.
On 17th July 1944 the house was again burned to the ground by the Occupying army and it stayed 'a shell' until the previous owners bought it in 2003 and started the painstaking process of restoring it to it's previous glory. It has been turned into a very successful B&B.
You may recognise the house as it features in the British TV programmes 'Grand designs'
The imposing facade leads to a spacious hallway on the ground floor. to the right of the hall is the Kitchen/breakfast room 44m2, and to the left is the comfortable Lounge/dining room also 44m2 with a wood burner in an impressive fireplace. there is also a ground floor wc.
On the first floor is the master bedroom 43m2 with ensuite bathroom, including a bath and shower.
On the other side of the hallway are two bedrooms, 23m2 and 21m2, both with ensuite facilities.
On the second floor the main feature bedroom, 44m2 has a free standing 'roll top' bath and shower room. Also on this level are two further bedrooms with a connecting door which can become a family suite with ensuite facilities again.
The third floor is currently divided into a bedroom with ensuite 34m2 and an open space, 35m2 which has previously been used as a Gymnasium and could be whatever you wish,
Next to the house is a converted barn which now houses two Gites, both of which have a footprint of 54m2 and have two bedrooms, a shower room and open plan kitchen/dining room/lounge. There is a cellar under the entire footprint of the property and a large workshop/utility room. An electricity powered central heating system keeps the house very comfortable and the house is fully double glazed.
The village of St Hillaire le Chateau is just 6Km away where there is a general store and Restaurant. More shopping and other amenities can be found at the larger towns of Pontarion 10Km, Royere de Vassiviere 13km and Bourganeuf 16km. The regions capital, Gueret is only 33Km away and Limoges with its International airport is just over an hour away.
