Chateau Melay is a home away from home located in the lovely village of Melay. The Chateau, which works equally well as a B&B / Chambres d’Hôte is well appointed and maintained and has many original features shown on the 360 dgrs virtual tours. Read more ...
Built in 1644, this “Chateau” has stood the test of time.
An historic building, tastefully renovated retaining most of the original details from previous centuries.
The Chateau is located on the border of the Haute Marne and the Haute Saone near the town of Jussey in a beautiful green hilly landscape covered by forrests and farmlands.
It is only a short distance from the “Péage Route du Soleil” making the Chateau an ideal stopover.
The Chateau has a total of 12 bedrooms, all rooms are decorated in style and 9 out of the 12 rooms have an en-suite bath or shower room with toilet.
The Chateau hosts a B&B / Chambres d'Hôtes with 5 rooms all with ensuit which is the maximum according to french law for B&B’s. There is a steady flow of returning guests and the 5 designated rooms are usualy fully booked throughout the season.
The Chateau is also regularly rented out in its entirety (excluding the private rooms) for events such as weddings, artist weeks, company weekends and then all 12 bedrooms are in full use. With the artist weeks alone, the Chateau is fully let for 7 weeks in the summer! All this gives the Chateau a good and continuous source of income from which the current owners can live very well.
There is a spacious private area with its own living-dining room, kitchen, bedroom, shower and toilet. For privacy reasons these rooms are not shown in the pictures and virtual tours. They are located on the ground floor and on the lead picture it is located behind the right hand entrance door with a window on each side of this door.
The Chateau has a beautiful large landscaped garden with sun lounges and a plunge pool to keep children entertained, or for adults to cool off with a beer or a glass of wine. There is also an equipped outdoor room with a wood-burning stove. Breakfast and dinner are usually served outside in summer.
There is ample parking space available on the Chateau grounds.

The “Haute Saone”, part of France-Comté, colloquially known as ‘Le Grand Est Oublié’ has now become the “New Place “ to be !
And not without good reason! Not only has it, seemingly, been forgotten by Paris but it’s never top of the list for the millions of tourists who flock to the French beaches, the Alps or other popular parts of the country, during their holidays. Over the last 10 - 20 years the local climate has a become more Mediterranean, without the Mistral and the oppressive heat more and more common on the Côte D’Azur or the Atlantic. From a traveller’s perspective we are a reasonable 5 hour drive from Calais, 3 from Luxembourg and just 4 1/2 hours from Frankfurt, with Basel (2 hours)our nearest international airport with daily flights to the UK. Les Vosges, the Jura and the Alsace are no more than a 1 hrs drive and Dijon, very much the gastronomic capital of France, is just over an hour away. If you love farm lands and country side, rolling hills and a great deal of culture and history then I really recommend the Haute Saone. It’s very much possible that you’ll fall in love with this stunning and forgotten little piece of France.
