Under offer - It is most unusual to find this style of maison-de-maître in such a rural location, which makes this property quite simply unique! Hidden away in the Ossau Valley in the foothills of the Pyrénées and with no near neighbours, the main house could easily be transformed into luxurious boutique Bed and Breakfast suites and the large guest cottage could be used as a gîte/guest cottage/owner’s cottage, as could the second house for renovation. Alternatively, the property would make a fantastic family home or holiday home, with complete peace and tranquillity guaranteed! Read more ...

Although in need of some renovation, this delightful property offers the new owners numerous possibilities, whether it’s for using as a family home, holiday home or, depending on planning permission, for creating a tourism-related business. The layout and décor of all three buildings can be changed to suit the needs of the new owners – and the many original architectural features will add to the character of the property.

The ground floor of the maison de maître comprises a vast entrance hall/sitting room, a second spacious sitting room with a double-height ceiling and open fireplace, a separate kitchen, a bathroom and a WC. A traditional wooden staircase leads up to the first and second floors with two bedrooms on the first floor and two bedrooms and a small dressing room on the second floor. A mezzanine-style gallery on the first floor, which overlooks the sitting room/dining room, is used as an office/study and is accessible from one of the bedrooms.

The guest cottage, which is adjacent to the main house, has a light and airy conservatory leading into a large sitting/dining room, with a kitchen and a shower room with WC also on the ground floor. The first floor is a large loft-style bedroom.

The second house, dating from 1811, is 75m from the main house along a garden path and has its own separate entrance from the lane. The building is in excellent structural condition with a good slate roof but is just an empty shell at present (50m2 on the ground floor with enough height to create mezzanines).

This lovely property is located in the Vallée d’Ossau, famous for the river Ossau (the Gave d’Ossau) and the local sheep’s cheese, which is called Ossau-Iraty. The city of Pau is about 25km north of the property – the Pyrénées ski resorts and Spanish border are to the south. If you fancy a day on the beach in Biarritz or St-Jean-de-Luz, the Atlantic coastal resorts are under 90 minutes away to the west.

Sévignacq-Meyracq is in the Vallée d’Ossau, which is named after the Ossau river, the Gave d’Ossau. The valley extends to the Spanish border, where you can ski at Gourette, or catch a small open train at Artouste to travel high into the mountains. The area is also known for its sheep’s cheese, Ossau-Iraty. The GR10 is accessible at Gourette and it is possible to join the Chemin de St-Jacques-de-Compostelle (Voie d’Arles) at Arudy before arriving in the Medieval market town of Oloron-Ste-Marie.

The nearby towns of Louvie-Juzon, Rébénacq, Arudy and Nay are all easily accessible from Sévignacq-Meyracq and all have a good choice of supermarkets, restaurants and bars. Arudy has a market every Tuesday and Saturday morning and Sévignacq-Meyracq has an annual Christmas market in mid-December. For a much bigger choice of shops and amenities - and a university - the city of Pau is about 30 minutes away. The area also has many excellent schools.
