About me

My husband and I bought our house in 2000 as a renovation project, more with a pension scheme in mind than a permanent home. Since then we found we wanted to spend more and more time here and eventually decided that we would like to live here full time. We now have a daughter who loves living in the countryside, being able to play with plenty of space and checking to see if the chickens have laid an egg for her tea! About my area

La Mayenne is a northern department within Les Pays de la Loire. Here you are properly in France, but still within 2 hours drive of the cross channel ferry port at Caen. Lovely rivers and wooded valleys abound with water sports being very popular and canoeing, sailing and windsurfing being offered throughout the area together with rock climbing, abseiling and potholing. We now have a daughter who loves living in the countryside, being able to play with plenty of space and checking to see if the chickens have laid an egg for her tea! The area is known for it’s beautiful, rolling countryside, traditional cuisine and history. Lovely rivers and wooded valleys abound with water sports being very popular and canoeing, sailing and windsurfing being offered throughout the area together with rock climbing, abseiling and potholing. If you prefer something less strenuous then there are numerous pretty villages to explore where history surrounds you, whether your interest lies in the world of the Romans or the Medieval there is something for you here. The Roman town of Jublains is a must see with amphitheatre, fort, baths and temple and a great museum. The town of Lassay-les-Chateaux with it’s 12th Century keep overlooking the lake with lovely rose gardens is a must see. The Loire is the land of the Chateaux where the wealthy had their country retreats and you can understand why they chose to when you have sampled what there is on offer. The town of Mayenne lies either side of the river, rising up on both sides with the newly restored chateau and its protective walls making a wonderful viewing point for the town. There are plenty of shops to suit all tastes from boutiques to delicatessens. Peace and quiet, hustle and bustle, if you want one not far from the other then this area for you! close
