About my area

This is a region of contrasts and very much an area from which you are ideally placed to explore other regions of France. Living at the bottom of the Mayenne on the border with Brittany, I am close to the Loire-Atlantique, Maine et Loire and Ille-et-Villaine departments. Each of these areas have their own distinctive types of houses, from the traditional farmhouses, large and small, to the ultra-modern town houses of the more urban areas. The local areas are largely comprised of rural and livestock farming communities and so much natural beauty and local history. We are fortunate in having a mix of the secluded rural countryside and the larger cities of Angers and Rennes. International airports and Channel ports are in easy distance.

About me

We bought a traditional longère with some land in early 2014, right on the edge of a small town backed by one of the many cycle paths that snake their way through the countryside of the Mayenne. This enables us to live the secluded life of rural France, but with easy access to the local towns of Renaze and Laval plus the vibrant cities of Angers and Rennes. We have it all, the small villages with the bar and depot de pain, the towns with their weekly markets selling a vast array of goods and the larger towns for more regular shopping. Whilst we were used to living the rural life at our previous home, life in France just seems so much better. We are at the very beginning of our journey in France and are constantly learning as we integrate our lives into the French way of living. We feel blessed living here. In our short time here we have met some amazing people and for sure our quality of life has improved so much. Definitely a no-regrets move and we are so looking forward to whatever lays ahead in our new homeland. Hopefully we can help others build a new life too!
