About our area

Montmorillon is situated on the Gartempe river which flows through our town.Famous for its Cité de l’Ecrit, The International Institute of Gastronomy chef school and hotel opening in 2019 by the world famous chef Joël Robuchon.Montmorillon is a popular destination as it is in the heart of the Vienne. The towns of Poitiers and Limoges are within easy reach for airports and the TGV high speed rail network, retail therapy and Futuroscope. Locally there is a market held at Les Herolles once a month, France’s largest open air street market selling everything you can think of. At St Savin also on the Gartempe, is the 11th century Abbey church which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are also plenty of outdoor activities to do in the area such as walking, horse riding, kayaking, fishing and cycling.

About us

In 2005 we sold our house in South West London and moved to the Vienne to begin a new, more relaxed way of life. We bought a barn which we slowly renovated. Initially, we lived in our caravan which was no easy task with a 5 year old, a dog and a cat. We kept chickens and reared sheep on our land which was a really great learning experience for us all. We especially loved the lambing season which involved a lot of lamb cuddling! In 2016 we moved into the town of Montmorillon to start another chapter and renovation project. Our daughter has been in the French educational system since she was five and now as a teenager is completely bilingual. She has lots of friends and enjoys long hot summers in our pool or cycling to the villages where she spends time in the river with her friends. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful area and we all enjoy integrating with the locals with their love of family culture and the odd glass of wine!
