History: Mereville town is the capital of the canton in the second district of Essonne. In the early 16th century, Louis XII gives the local lord, the right to hold four annual fairs and a weekly market. In the 18th century the castle was bought, on the eve of the Revolution, by the rich financier Jean-Joseph de Laborde, and enjoyed a great influence. In 2000, the castle, already a listed building was bought by the General Council of Essonne for rehabilitation. At the last 2011 census, the town had 3,191 inhabitants.
