Michelle Barlow Independent Agent, says :
A two bedroom residence in a stylish old monastery/convent set in the heart of a medieval village, under an hour from La Rochelle and the famous sandy beaches of the Vendee. The apartment has been professionally modernised to a high standard and would make an ideal second home or investment property with good rental potential.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a first floor two bedroom apartment in Le Monastère, a converted former convent which has 15 acres of secluded park land leading down to the banks of the River Mere, where you may fish and go boating. The front of the property overlooks the Romanesque church, village square and Marie’s building, whilst to the rear you can enjoy breakfast overlooking the beautiful gardens, pool and river. Set just a few steps away from the centre of the fortified village of Vouvant where there are restaurants, cafes, baker, shops and river with parkland, walks, fishing and boating.
Vouvant is described as one of the prettiest villages in France with a rich medieval history and magnificent Romanesque church dating from the 11th Century. Vouvant is a haven for artists and holds regular exhibitions to show of their work.

Vendee is the second most touristic department of France, mostly because of its excellent facilities and family resorts on the Atlantic coast. However, there is much more than the coast in Vendee! The lovely villages, winding roads between fields, historic castles and churches, great food and nice people!
La Roche-sur-Yon is the department capital, which was just a village until the Vendee department was created after the revolution. Les Herbiers, to the North East of La Roche-sur-Yon, is a busy town and an excellent base for touring the picturesque Vendee countryside. Les Sables d'Olonne was once a whaling and fishing port but thanks to the fashion for sea bathing has become Vendee's chicest resort and the population in July and August explodes!
The region enjoys a maritime climate with mild winters, and it is the second sunniest place in France after the Côte d'Azur for number of hours of sun per year.
Vendee is also a good compromise as it is not too far from the ports to England and Ireland (3 hours to Cherbourg), and close to cities and airports: 1 hour to Nantes, Poitiers and La Rochelle. On a day trip or week-end you can drive to many areas in France, such as the beautiful region of Brittany.
French property prices in the Vendee are very attractive considering the good weather, proximity to coastline and great infrastructure available to permanent and holiday home owners.
