This is a really well proportioned duplex ski apartment with 3 bedrooms, one master en-suite and two doubles that share a shower room. What is particularly special, other than the fact its doorstep skiing, is the view. Simply wonderful. You look over the village church toward the Valley de Belleville and in the distance you’ll see Creve Tete that towers over Valmorel and St Jean de Belleville. A stunning view in all seasons. As there are balconies on two side on both floors the views seep in to the living space wherever you are, and the views on the other side are of Le Cochet and Encombres, which is also stunning and Le Cochet is lit at night during the winter season.
But I haven’t yet mentioned the living space........ a very spacious, feel good room with the focal points being the balconies and the views and the stone open fireplace which is free standing in the lounge area. Delightful. Plenty of space for a large dining table, and the corner kitchen is part of the room and yet clearly a separate space. All in all a very well conceived apartment that will make a stunning ski base for a lucky family. Also a good rental property – but I’m not sure you’d want anyone else to use it!
There is also a garage space, couple of ski lockers and storage caves - a very good haul for the price.
It is situated near the boulangerie and shops not far from the bars and restaurants and therefore a great place for après ski as well – you can just stroll out of the door into La Voute or L’Eterlou or venture into the Piano Bar for some live music. The restaurants are varied and good; La Montagnard - a particular favourite with a very good wine list and European/Savoyard menu, La Voute – something for everyone, L’Eterlou – great value, to name but a few and there is a new one opening this year which we look forward to. And let’s not forget the Coq Rouge in Moutiers (well worth a visit) or even more special la Bouitte a 2 star Michelin restaurant. Oh yes indeed, it’s a good place to live or visit if you appreciate good dining.
The skiing is of course the most important thing; from your door you ski straight onto the local village piste, jump on the lift up to the gondola or pop in a couple of easy turns before you use the 8 man gondola to whisk you up to the upper slopes. From here you use the St Martin 2 chair lift to reach the top to ski down into the Meribel Valley and if the feeling takes you over to Courchevel, or glide down the “gros tongue” a long blue into Les Menuires from where you can access the stunning skiing of La Masse or carry on up to Val Thorens where you can enjoy glacier skiing or drop over into the Orelle valley. In fact with 600kms of on-piste and probably the same again off-piste the sky’s the limit and there is always something to suit every level and type of snow sport. There is an awesome snow park just off St Martin 2 called the Moon Park.
Restaurants on the mountain continue to improve every year and are too numerous and too varied to mention – just enjoy the great menus, sunny terraces and excellent local fare.
But what if skiing isn’t the B all and end all? In the winter there are other things to try; racket walking (snow shoeing), sledge rides pulled by huskies, there are visits to local farms and museums, musical concerts, ice climbing, baroque church tour (very beautiful and interesting), spa at les Menuires and Val Thorens, beauty centre in the village and if you have a car the options are endless..... and you can always curl up with a good book in front of the fire, or relax on the balcony with a glass of rosé and watch the world go by.
Travelling to this apartment is easy by car as its just 20 mins off the valley floor from the N90 in Moutiers. Or try the TGV/Snow Train which also stops in Moutiers. If you prefer to fly then Geneva Airport, Lyon and Grenoble airport are all about 2 hours away. With Chambery just over an hour away.
Which makes this a drive in, ski out, ski in, drive out ski apartment and an excellent purchase – it doesn’t get much better than this !
