Toby and Didi Hawkins Independent Agent, says :
You can't help falling in love with this charming house. Previously 2 little cottages, it is now a wonderfully enticing, higgledy-piggeldy haven. Full of character, yet plenty of living space for a large family, you feel miles and years from the modern world in this peaceful hamlet, yet just 10 minutes from Civray, a large town with all shops and services. Poitiers and Angoulême airports are both within an hours drive with excellent links to the UK.
There is a large kitchen/living room with exposed beams, a gorgeous fireplace with a wood burner and wonderful original stone floor. The kitchen has a large pantry and the bookshelves in the living room make you feel immediately at home.
Above this huge room is a bedroom and bathroom, with a bath, basin and lavatory, and a little study area.
In the other cottage, connecting to the living room through a conservatory, which is perfect for long lunches, is a second kitchen with a back kitchen too. This leads to the hall and the sitting room. A super room with exposed beams, a fireplace which has a wood burner, and a window overlooking the courtyard herb garden. There is a bathroom with shower, lavatory and basin and two more bedrooms, one large enough for two big beds and the other a small single.
From the hall, the front door leads to the herb garden which has shade from a beautiful Paulonia tree. This garden has outbuildings around it including a workshop, tool shed and a newly converted garden room with a mezzanine level.
The art room leads to another room which needs renovating and these two rooms have an attic above.
It is a beautiful stone property and at the back of the house, the attached garden backs on to woodland and open countryside. There is plenty of space for a large vegetable plot and pool and the position, the last house in the hamlet, gives you plenty of privacy.
Impossible to adequately describe this haven, so come and visit it and be ready to fall head over heels in love with it.

The Vienne was formed in 1790 from parts of the historical regions of Poitou, Berry and Touraine. The department tends to slope downwards from the north to the south with the highest point reaching 764 ft and the lowest point being 115ft at the confluence of the River Creuse and the River Charente. The department gets its name from the River Vienne, which flows straight down the centre.
Poitiers is the departmental and regional capital and boasts France's oldest Christian building, the Saint Jean baptistery, constructed back in the fourth century. The town has some fine examples of Romanesque architecture, is a pleasant small city, and visitors will find a relaxed atmosphere, especially compared to Paris. IT is home to around 90,000 people including many students thanks to the popular university. Poitiers is also a good base to visit nearby towns and cities. A lot of retirees move to the city and its' environs, attracted by its warm climate (snow is rare).
North of Poitiers is Futuroscope, France's scientific theme park, created by the Vienne departmental council. Further north still is Chatellerault, a charming town with tree-lined avenues and the imposing Henry IV bridge, built some four centuries ago which crosses the River Vienne.
Montmorillon is a small town with only 7,500 inhabitants, and book publishing is the town's speciality and a book fair is held here every June. The nearby Vienne River offers kayaking and fishing amongst many other activities. Away from the river, the gentle countryside provides an ideal location for horse riding and walking.
Ryanair flies direct to both Limoges and Poitiers. If you'd rather go by land then take France's super fast TGV train service, which stops off in Poitiers. To get there by car, take the A10 from Paris.
