Périgord is also the envy of the world for the richness of its traditional gastronomy: foie gras, goose and duck products, black truffles, chestnuts, AOC walnuts, strawberries... not forgetting the wines of Bergerac (also 13 "appellations d'origine contrôlée" = AOC), in some ways neighbours to the great classified growths of Bordeaux.

With a surface area of 982 hectares, Périgueux was home to a total population of 31,642 on 1 January 2021 (figure taken from the 2018 census).
The latest figures, compiled by INSEE for 2017, provide a representative snapshot of the people of Périgueux. :
