The Area...
Briancon is the highest town in Europe and part of the Serre Chevalier ski domain, the 3rd largest ski resort in France. It is situated at the northern part of the southern alps just next to the Italian border and has always been an important strategical and geographical area of the entire french alps.
Recently parts of the “Old Town” and its surrounding fortifications have been included in the UNESCO world heritage list. The historical importance of the whole area are evident in the medieval cobbled streets and ramparts that now welcome tourists to their numerous restaurants, shops and bars.
Serre Chevalier and Briancon have a busy summer tourist trade made popular by the Tour De France and the many sporting events taking place here. The ski domain borders the enormous Ecrin National Park which welcomes nature lovers from all over the world.
