Built in 1550, this superb riverside property was once a mill and its vast outoor dining terrace extends out over the river. The main house of 120m² has unconverted loft space of 30m² and the building can be extended by another 30m².
The approach to the house is along a country lane, which comes to and end just beyond the property. There is a garage for one car and enough room for parking for up to eight cars. Set back from the lane and hidden behind trees, the house has small courtyards at the front and the back of the building, as well as a fabulous south-facing dining terrace over the river.
The ground floor of the house comprises an entrance hall, an open-plan sitting room/dining room with a wood-burning stove, an adjacent kitchen and a utility room with a shower room and a WC.
The first floor has a master bedroom and three slightly smaller bedrooms (two with sloping ceilings), a bathroom and a WC. The views from the first floor are enchanting!
The wonderful south-facing dining terrace next to the house has a summer kitchen and barbecue area where you can relax next to the river and watch the wildlife. The terrace is the perfect spot to enjoy sunny breakfasts, long lazy lunches and romantic suppers gazing at the stars!
The property is surrounded by woodland of 19,186m² (4.7 acres) with six chalets and a heated swimming pool of 10m x 3m. The swimming pool has a decked sun terrace for sunbathing and a pool house at one end.
The six wooden chalets (25m²) are perfect for couples. Each chalet has a main room with a sitting/dining/kitchen/sleeping area and a separate shower room with WC. There is also a small covered terrace at the front of each chalet.
The property is close to a picture-postcard village, which is famous for its delightful Basque architecture. The village has a great choice of restaurants and bars, a boulangerie and a lively market every Tuesday morning during the summer. There are buses to the coast where you can swim, surf and picnic on the glorious beaches along the Côte Basque – or head inland to explore the pretty Basque farming villages around St-Jean-Pied-de-Port.
