THE LOCAL AREA

Located to the east of Pau, the many shops and amenities of the city are easily accessible from the property, as is the newly renovated covered market. In addition, many of the local towns and villages have weekly farmers’ markets – and a great choice of lively bars and restaurants can be found everywhere!

This area is also well-known for its excellent schools. Nearby collège-lycées offer a range of studying options (some in English), along with the chance to specialise in theatre, dance, sports… and even horse riding! The International School in Pau (English) also has a very good reputation.

From Idron, the Vallée d’Ouzom is about 20 minutes away. It extends all the way up to the Spanish border in the Pyrénées, where you can ski at Val d’Azun and Gourette. You can also catch a small open train at Artouste to travel high up into the mountains. The GR10 is accessible at Gourette and it is possible to join the Chemin de St-Jacques-de-Compostelle at Arudy to follow the main route from the Medieval market town of Oloron-Ste-Marie
