Situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Mauléon Barousse, the “Pink House” as it is known, overlooks the river Ourse.  It is a large, bright, and airy house, about 300 years old, that has been lovingly renovated.

It offers a very big living/dining room, a large fitted kitchen and utility room with toilet, 2 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a mezzanine office space (which could be used as further sleeping accommodation), a large terrace, a wooden balcony, a garage and a large cellar.

The house also benefits from double glazing and new wiring throughout, and there is potential to extend into the attic to create further bedrooms if desired.

This property would make a fabulous ‘lock up and leave’ holiday home, or a beautiful permanent home in a very popular location, within walking distance of a number of amenities. Read more ...

Entering the house, the original double wooden door opens onto a large triple aspect living room.  The 4 windows and 2 glass doors leading onto the balcony makes this spacious room (60m²) very bright.  There is a wood burning stove, original beam and floorboards.  A covered wooden balcony is running the length of the living room and offers views over the river below.

The kitchen is accessed directly from the living room and is fully fitted and includes a gas hob, an electric oven, an integrated fridge, microwave oven and a solid fuel Rayburn.  It has beams and sweet chestnut floorboards.  Adjoining the kitchen are a utility room and a separate toilet.

From the kitchen, there is a large staircase leading to the spacious roof space.  Immediately off the top of the stairs, there is a small room with a Velux window and a glass door leading to a sizeable terrace.  The room is currently used as an office but could convert to a small bedroom or a summer living room.  It has large fitted storage space and the airing cupboard.  On the same level there is a door leading to the unconverted loft.  New Velux windows are in place and the insulation is ready to be installed.  There is ample room for conversion.

The terrace is L shaped and has room for a large table and chairs, a BBQ and a couple of loungers.  It is fitted with wooden flower boxes and trellis, as well as decking and small gravel on the floor.

From the living room there is a staircase going down to the floor below. To the left there is a bedroom with fitted wardrobe, radiator, original beam & floorboards and a very large and bright en-suite bathroom.

The second bedroom is at the end of the corridor and has a radiator, original floorboards and en-suite shower room.

The garage has large double doors, a window with a small balcony, a built in wood store, a trap door to a small basement, and an access door to the kitchen.

The property is located in Mauléon Barousse, which is a small lively village in the Hautes Pyrénées.  It has a post office, a bakery/food store, a small hotel/restaurant and a self-service petrol station.  Just a short distance away on the outskirts you can find a fishing lake, picnic area and tennis courts.

The village of Sost, a few kilometres up the mountain, is famed for its cheeses, while a few more kilometres the other side is the Port de Balès, the excruciating long route taken by the Tour de France.  The Tour has passed the Pink House 3 times in the last 5 years and you can enjoy watching it from the balcony.

Toulouse airport (EasyJet, BA) is just over an hour’s drive.  Lourdes airport (Ryan Air) is an hour away.  Bagnères de Luchon and its ski slopes are only a 40 minute drive.  Luchon is also a Spa town which specialises in the cure of chest complaints amongst other things.  At the Baths, you can enjoy a heated swimming pool, hydrotherapy, massage and more.  The Spanish border is only 40 minutes away with its tapas bars and restaurants.

There are primary and secondary schools, doctors, pharmacies, and 2 large hospitals within a short distance.

DPE test on going.
