This is a lovely property, retaining its original appearance and many of its original features, with gorgeous wooden floors, stone fireplaces, large windows and lovely high ceilings. There is even the village clock on the front of the property with all of the mechanics accessible in the attic - I am told it’s all in full working condition! Read more ...

The property has some really interesting history; it was once the cart makers forge and the village grocery in its early days - you can still walk in to the room which was the grocery shop, now used as a workshop and store, but still with the original counter, shelves, weighing scales etc. The forge is also still in place, used now as a workshop, but still retaining the forge itself and with some lovely old tools and cartwheels lying around as souvenirs!

The property is accessed by the front door and into the entrance hall, with the old grocer's shop to the right. The large dining room is also accessed from the hall, with a separate kitchen from there. The dining room leads to a spacious and bright lounge (which actually used to be the village restaurant!) and from there, across a pretty courtyard is the attached barn. The steps leading up to the entrance of the barn reveal a lovely surprise; this used to be the village dance hall and has lovely oak floors, stone walls, a large, stone fireplace and windows to two walls. It’s absolutely perfect for renovation as living quarters, a hobby studio – or you could even open up another dance room to entertain the locals!

Back in the entrance hall, a beautiful wooden staircase with its handmade, oak bannister, curves up to the first and second floors. The first floor, which has a lovely, good-sized landing, houses three good sized bedrooms with windows that allow lots of natural light (I'm told the first two of these rooms used to be one large one, so the wall could easily be removed if desired, to create another, much larger room instead). The third room, which is approached through a doorway revealing another grand landing, is actually split into two and is almost presented as a small studio, with a large bedroom, a separate bathroom and WC and another smaller room attached. With just a little imagination, this whole floor could be transformed into a couple of fantastic bedrooms, both ensuite or simply updated to retain what are currently four bedrooms. The staircase continues up to the large attic, which covers the whole of the first floor in space. Here, you can access the lovely workings of the outside clock and, with its existing windows, wooden floors and gorgeous ceiling beams already in place, this is yet another space in this property which is perfect for renovation.

There is a great cellar beneath this property, which can be accessed from underneath the staircase or by a doorway to the side of the house. The steady temperature down here will provide great storage for all your wines!

Outside, to the rear, is the aforementioned courtyard and a lovely garden, filled with shrubs and fruit trees and with plenty of space to create a great family garden, complete with veggie plot and a well with original water source. There a few outbuildings (old animal pens) in good enough condition for storage or for conversion to workshops, playhouses or even an outside kitchen. The front of the property is already quite imposing and, with just a little TLC, will become a very grand looking house with some pretty decent kerb-appeal. This property offers opportunity for a fabulous family home or, given its location in a peaceful village with a lovely little bar, grocers and the ever-appealing village bakery, not to mention being very close to the popular lakes, it could be transformed into a great Chambre d’Hotes business for the budding entrepreneur.

The house has oil-fired central heating, with radiators in most rooms.
