These cosy country cottages near the pretty Béarnaise village of Lasseube are set in south-facing gardens and grounds of 2,478m² and have super views of of the Pyrénées on the horizon! Ideal for a spacious family home or a holiday home, the cottages are connected by an open porch - and since both buildings are independent, one could be used as a guest cottage to accommodate friends and family when they come to stay. Alternatively, one of the cottages could be used as a gîte or for Bed and Breakfast guests all year round or just during the summer months, the skiing season and at Christmas and New Year. One of the cottages could also be used as an office, a consulting room, an art studio… Read more ...

Set amidst the rolling hills of the Béarn and surrounded by organic Jurançon vineyards, these two country cottages have superb views to the mountains beyond! Bought as a ruin in the 1970s, the current owners have carefully rebuilt the property, incorporating modern home comforts with architectural features which date back to the building's 18th century origins.

The property is set at the end of a country lane which leads into a large courtyard in front of the cottages. To the right of the courtyard is a garage for two cars. Adjoining the garage is a workshop with a temperature controlled wine cellar and a woodstore. From the courtyard, the cottages are accessible from a covered porch: Cottage 1 has two bedrooms and faces east; Cottage 2 has three bedrooms and faces south.

The front door of Cottage 1 opens into an entrance hall and a cloakroom/utility room/pantry hidden behind sliding doors. A huge south-facing sitting room/dining room runs the length of the cottage, with a superb open fireplace along one wall and magnificent French doors at the far end, which open directly into the garden. The kitchen is next to the dining area and is a separate room.

Lovely wooden stairs lead up to a spacious landing on the first floor with built-in storage cupboards and bookshelves. The two bedrooms are at either end of the landing, along with a family bathroom.

The front door of Cottage 2 opens into a spacious sitting room/dining room with south-facing French doors, which open directly into the garden. At the far end of the sitting room/dining room is a lovely bedroom - and behind the sitting room/dining room is a kitchen with access to a shower room and a separate WC. Upstairs, there are two more bedrooms.

The property is situated in south-west France in the delightful Béarn region. Atlantic beach resorts are about 90 minutes away to the west and Pyrenean ski resorts are an hour away to the south, as is the Spanish border. The city of Pau is under 25 minutes away; the Medieval riverside town of Oloron-Ste-Marie is about 20 minutes away; Toulouse and Bordeaux are about two-and-a-half hours away.

The property is set in south-facing grounds of 2,478m², which slope down to a lovely vegetable garden. The cottages form an L-shape around a flat lawn shaded by a mature tree - the perfect spot for sunny breakfasts, long lazy lunches and romantic moonlit suppers...

This excellent property comprises nearly 200m² of useable living space, making it perfect for a very spacious family home or holiday home. With five bedrooms in total, you will have plenty of room to accommodate your friends and family – or one of the cottages or the workshop could be be used as an office, a consulting room, an art studio or even a workspace for running cookery/Jurançon wine-tasting courses…

Both cottages have income potential, should you be interested in renting either of them out to holidaymakers. The area’s proximity to the Pyrénées and the Atlantic coast brings many visitors to the Béarn, many of whom are looking for top-quality accommodation all year round, but particularly during the summer months, the skiing season and at Christmas and New Year.

One of the cottages could be used as a holiday gîte during the summer, or it could become a luxurious Bed and Breakfast suite, attracting visitors for short breaks out of season. The delightful grounds and superb views are a huge plus for holidaymakers – and the rural location of the property will guarantee them peace and tranquillity throughout their stay!

The property is located in the beautiful Béarn region and not far from the Pays Basque. The area is very popular with tourists due to its close proximity to Atlantic beach resorts, Pyrénées ski resorts and to Spain. Airports at Pau, Biarritz and Tarbes-Lourdes are easily accessible from the property and there are railway stations at Pau, Oloron-St-Marie and Orthez.

Lasseube is about 5 minutes away by car. It has bars and restaurants, two boulangeries, a grocery shop and a pharmacy, along with a weekly market every Saturday morning. The town also has a primary school and a collège (for 11–15- year-olds). Older children can choose to attend a lycée in Oloron-Ste-Marie or Pau. The collège-lycées in this area are excellent and offer a range of studying options (some in English), as well as the opportunity to specialise in theatre, various sports and even horse riding! There is also an International School in Pau, which follows the English curriculum and awards UK qualifications.
