This is a large and elegant house, tastefully renovated conserving the lovely original features including marble fireplaces, ceiling roses and cornices, built originally in 1882 for the village doctor who was clearly a man of means and good taste. The position in the village is important, being directly opposite the town hall and within easy walking distance of the shops and bars. The private gardens of just under an acre offer a haven of peace and tranquillity with fruitful and unusual trees and there is a good-sized stable block offering garaging, workshops and potential for creating more habitable space.

Access is good with the village being 45km from Poitiers airport and 80km from Limoges airport. Read more ...

From the street you come in through these grand gates and once inside you are in your own private paradise. The gardens boast a multitude of rare and interesting species of trees including the full gambit of fruit trees (fig, plum, pear, apricot, cherry, walnut) as well as some rare trees including a cedar and a Jerusalem Acacia. The accommodation is on three floors, and a full wing of the ground floor is taken up by an impressive kitchen dining room of almost 45m² - the perfect entertaining space, with superbly high ceilings and an electric Aga. French windows lead out on to the terrace and the garden on two sides which also bring lots of light into this beautiful room. Apart from the kitchen there are two further reception rooms on the ground floor, both about 20m² with double opening doors and marble fireplaces. The beautiful turned staircase leads up from the entrance hall to the first floor landing, from which are the main bedroom (25m²) which leads in turn to the original bathroom (10m²) and dressing room (10m²), two further bedrooms (both approximately 20m²) one of which has a basin of it's own in a cupboard and also off the landing is an independent WC. Upstairs again to the top floor where a spacious landing leads to two further bedrooms (both just over 22m²) and a bathroom (approximately 12.5m²) and behind one of the bedrooms is a further room of approximately 20m² which has not been renovated yet, but provides more potential. There is also a spacious cellar consisting of three rooms accessed by a stone staircase from the hall.

Outside there is a large outbuilding in good condition with stables and garaging on the ground floor, and above an enormous hayloft, another large room in which apparently the Doctor used to have a model train set, and a small room where the stable hand used to live. The grounds extend beside and behind the stable block to almost 4000m², and apart form the usual fruit trees (plum, fig, pear, apricot, cherry and walnut) there are some very mature trees including cedar, pine and a most unusual Jerusalem Acacia.
