This magnificent property provides a rare opportunity to acquire a fully modernised château in a superb location in the Dordogne. A complete renovation was undertaken 10 years ago, with some highly original modern architecture in the fifteenth century part of the house, admirably complementing the more historic parts of the construction.

The approach is along a small side road that terminates at the property. Automatic gates ensure that visitors park in the area set aside for this purpose, beside a range of outhouses. The gates themselves then open onto a gently sloping courtyard setting, comprising lawn and gravel, with the house facing south, flanked by barns and outhouses.

The south façade of the château has all the symmetry to be anticipated of the eighteenth century, when the south-facing suite of rooms – two on either side of a central entrance hall and staircase, on each of two floors - was added to the original fifteenth century logis that linked two round towers. As part of the château’s recent refurbishment the roof was totally remodelled, providing a Mansard structure rather than the original dormer windows. The central doors open into a spectacular stone-paved hall with a breathtaking stone staircase with cut stone balustrade. A modern cloakroom, fitted with WC and washbasin, has been constructed under the staircase.

A doorway below the half-landing of the staircase leads through to a dramatic contemporary space overlooking the parkland to the north. The north side of the house, dating back to the fifteenth century, was originally built into the rising ground behind. As part of the recent renovation this ground was excavated in order to bring light into the ground floor and provide access to the gardens to the rear. The whole of the original logis has been transformed into a vast semi-open-plan arrangement of utility and storage spaces on the ground floor, with office and library space above.

The ground floor accommodation is as follows:

- to the left of the hallway, reception room 1, 6m70 x 6m70 and kitchen 5m80 x 5m60, stoneflagged, with monumental fireplace and steps up to the base of the west tower to the rear, from which a staircase rises to Bedroom 1;

- to the right of the hallway, reception room 2, 6m30 x 4m90, with the original doors, parquet floor and timber chimneypiece, connecting with reception room 3, also 6m30 x 4m90, with fine cut stone chimneypiece and travertine floor (a door from reception room 3 providing access to the ground floor room of the east tower, 3m50 in diameter, currently used as a wine-cellar);

- beyond reception room 3, in the corner formed by the house and the sequence of barns on the east side of the courtyard, a hallway with third staircase gives access to Bedroom 7, 6m10 x 4m35, facing east, a further cloakroom with wash-basin and WC, and a summer kitchen, 7m10 x 5m50, opening onto the courtyard and having a superb monumental fireplace and the original cupboards built into the thickness of the wall separating it from the adjoining barn;

- behind the suite of south-facing rooms, in what was originally the medieval part of the house, there are a shower-room, WC, boiler-room, laundry and utility and storage areas.

On the first floor there is a similar arrangement of traditional rooms overlooking the courtyard to the south, backed by the upper level of the contemporary structure facing north. Three staircases ensure that all bedrooms can be accessed independently.

To the left of the central staircase are Bedroom 1, 6m20 x 5m70, accessed by means of the staircase in the west tower, opening into a small internal lobby that gives access to a bathroom with bath, shower-cubicle and washbasin and a separate WC, and Bedroom 2, 6m80 x 4m10, with en suite bathroom fitted with bath, washbasin and WC.

To the right of the central staircase are Bedroom 3, 6m50 x 4m90, with a stone chimneypiece, and en suite bathroom with bath, double washbasin and WC, and Bedroom 4, accessed by means of the east staircase, 6m40 x 5m, with adjoining dressing-room in the east tower and en suite bathroom with bath, washbasin and WC.

The landing outside Bedroom 4 also provides access to Bedroom 5, 6m40 x 4m50, facing east, with en suite shower room with shower, basin and WC, and Bedroom 6, 5m45 x 4m60, with exposed beams, small study area and en suite shower room fitted with shower, washbasin and WC.

The office and library areas on the upper level of the redesigned medieval part of the château can be reached from the half-landing of the main staircase as well as from the landing of the west staircase. They are lit not only by windows in the north wall but by a wall of plate glass to the west, giving onto the west tower.

There is a further small room, still unrestored, at the top of the west staircase. The attic space on the second floor could also provide further living accommodation.

A sequence of barns and outhouses flanking the front courtyard provides ample space for garaging, workshops and storage.

The land sold with the property extends to some 13 hectares, comprising garden, paddocks and woodland.
