THE LOCAL AREA

Sévignacq-Meyracq is in the Vallée d’Ossau, which is named after the Ossau river, the Gave d’Ossau. The valley extends to the Spanish border, where you can ski at Gourette, or catch a small open train at Artouste to travel high into the mountains. The area is also known for its sheep’s cheese, Ossau-Iraty. The GR10 is accessible at Gourette and it is possible to join the Chemin de St-Jacques-de-Compostelle (Voie d’Arles) at Arudy before arriving in the Medieval market town of Oloron-Ste-Marie.

The nearby towns of Louvie-Juzon, Rébénacq, Arudy and Nay are all easily accessible from Sévignacq-Meyracq and all have a good choice of supermarkets, restaurants and bars. Arudy has a market every Tuesday and Saturday morning and Sévignacq-Meyracq has an annual Christmas market in mid-December. For a much bigger choice of shops and amenities - and a university - the city of Pau is about 30 minutes away. The area also has many excellent schools.
