Ready to move into, this super cottage is perfect for anyone searching for a spacious family home or a luxurious holiday home. Alternatively, the property could be rented out on a long-term basis or to holidaymakers who will love it for its proximity to beach resorts, ski resorts and Spain! Read more ...

This lovely cottage has been beautifully maintained by the current owners and its stylish and tasteful décor is guaranteed to delight you! The property is set in 1,739m² of enclosed gardens and grounds – and the west-facing dining terrace at the back of the house is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine just as the sun is setting…

The interior of the house is light and airy - and the open-plan sitting room/dining room opens onto the covered dining terrace, which overlooks the garden. There is a large fireplace with an insert in the sitting area, which makes the room feel very cosy during the cooler months. Upstairs, two of the three bedrooms have balconies – one faces east for the sunrise and the other faces west for the sunset! There is also a large mezzanine area at the top of the staircase, which is ideal for using as a study/office area, a library area or even a playroom.

From the covered dining terrace, the garden slopes down gently to a pretty river, which is accessible from the land. The grounds are perfect for installing a swimming pool, along with a pool house and a summer kitchen. At the front of the house is a garage, which could be used to extend the accommodation in the house, if desired – or even to create a studio gîte to rent out separately…

The cottage is located on the outskirts of Eysus, a pretty village which is on the GR653 walking route. It is also on the St-Jacques-de-Compostelle pilgrim route (Voie d’Arles), which runs south from the Medieval market town of Oloron-Ste-Marie into Spain through the picturesque Vallée d’Aspe. Atlantic beach resorts are about 90 minutes away to the west and Pyrénées ski resorts are about an hour away to the south. The city of Pau and the verdant Basque Country are under 30 minutes away; Toulouse and Bordeaux are about two hours away.

First floor:
- a large mezzanine area, ideal for a study/office, library area or playroom
- two bedrooms, both with a balcony
- a smaller third bedroom

THE GARDEN

The property is set in gardens and grounds of 1,739m², which slope gently down to a river. Enclosed by shady mature trees, there is more than enough room for installing a swimming pool with a sun terrace, a pool house, a summer kitchen…

THE POTENTIAL!

This super property is perfect for a luxurious family home or holiday home. It could also be rented out during the summer months and the skiing season, or even on a long-term basis. There is a shortage of top-quality holiday accommodation in the Béarn, so you could generate an income straight away if your plan is to use the property for renting out.

If desired, the garage could be converted into a studio gîte to rent out or could be used for extending the kitchen or creating an additional bedroom.

THE LOCAL AREA

Popular with tourists all year round for hiking, mountain biking, white-water rafting and fishing, the region also has numerous ski resorts offering a range of winter sports, including downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snow-shoeing. For those who prefer beach-based activities, the Atlantic coast is just 90 minutes away where you can swim and surf at Biarritz, St-Jean-de-Luz, Hendaye, Hossegor... In nearby Herrère, there is a flying club for small planes and gliders.

The medieval market town of Oloron-Ste-Marie is just a short drive away where you will find shops, restaurants and pretty riverside walks along the Gave d’Oloron. The town has is officially classified by the French government as a “Ville active et sportive” and has many sporting facilities and cycle routes. There is also a free shuttle bus service for getting around the town.

Despite its relatively small size (population 10,000), Oloron offers an unusual number of cultural events and activities, both amateur and professional. Its excellent modern médiathèque overlooks the river where the Gave d’Ossau and the Gave d’Aspe join to become the Gave d’Oloron.

Film buffs might be interested to know that Oloron-Ste-Marie and several of the picturesque villages of the Vallée d’Aspe have been used as film locations recently, most notably for two French films ("Le Daim" and "I Feel Good") starring the Oscar winner, Jean Dujardin, and an English film, "Waiting for Anya" based on the Michael Morpurgo book set in France in the Second World War. Not only is the stunning, unspoilt countryside of the Béarn perfect for filmmakers, but enthusiastic locals are often encouraged to volunteer as extras to appear alongside the international film stars - next time, that could be you!
