Aix les Bains, the Riviera des Alpes, became the chic centre of European nobility after Queen Victoria, under the pseudonym of the Countess of Balmoral, frequented the spa town on Lac de Bourget in the 1880s to take the cure with Princess Beatrice. The "Royal" Palace, next door to the spa "thermes" was the boutique hotel of it's day and home to visiting nobility during the Belle Epoque. Queen Victoria only bought some land and bizarrely a donkey, which was shipped back to London, but here is the opportunity to acquire a stylish historical home, a slice of real history and with no donkey purchase required.

A short walk to the health spa and the centre of Aix-les-Bains, the apartments are perfectly positioned in a privileged private setting with formal gardens, secure parking and gated entry.

Both apartments have a large open plan living room and kitchen on the ground floor opening on to the 122m2 garden terrace via the original elegant ballroom French windows which extend up to the second floor.

The second floors are equally open plan with the ornate art-deco plaster ceiling mouldings which you can see in the photos. What you can't see is the continuation of that ornate plasterwork which is hidden yet intact behind the false ceilings fitted in the 1960's.

The final photo shows the next door apartment renovated with the plaster work revealed and integrated into a modern adaptation of the original ballroom ceiling.

The architect responsible for the transformation is available to redesign this apartment with full knowledge of the structural requirements including shortening the concrete floor to create a double height living room with the magnificent full height ballroom windows revealed. The dividing wall between the apartments is non structural as the ceiling is supported by the original marble pillars allowing a complete redesign of the internal space.
