About my area

Twenty years ago, I arrived, by chance, in the Gard - in my view, the very best part of France. It is Provencal in history and character, but “undiscovered” I’m letting you into my secret! It is the real France but with stunning open countryside and three hundred days of blue sky each year. It is roman in its roots with the Pont du Gard and lovely Roman Nimes, there are beautiful villages, some amongst the ‘Plus Beau Villages de France, and utterly Charming towns such as mediaeval Uzès. We have the wild “garrigue” of myrtle and wild herbs, plunging rivers, and the mountains of the Cevennes and Ardeche. The atmospheric Camargue and the Mediterranean are in easy reach. We have three airports with easy access to UK and Europe, the TGV in less than three hours to Paris and we are close to the Autoroutes to the North, to Spain and to Italy.

About me

I enjoyed 33 amazing years in the Royal Navy experiencing both action and command at sea. All good things have to come to an end and so, in 2001, my wife and I moved to France and bought and converted a huge “mas” (farmhouse), right next to a lovely hilltop village, which we ran as 5-star gites for several years. A hugely satisfying and interesting time. Three years ago, we sold the business and moved to a little very local village with an épicerie, boulangerie and a bar/restaurant full of lovely welcoming locals. After two great careers, I now dedicate myself to sharing my delight in this country and this region and helping others find the same perfect spot that I have.
