Charente-Maritime is part of the "Atlantic South'', located in west-central France, bordering the Atlantic Ocean and the largest estuary in Europe, the Gironde. It benefits from a wide coastline on its western part, and borders five departments. It enjoys a temperate climate thanks to its wide opening on the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde estuary, characterized by mild winters and temperate summers, with the most annual hours of sunshine outside the Cote d'Azur. It is easily accessible, with airports at Poitiers, La Rochelle and Bordeaux, great TGV and regional rail connections, and half a day's drive from cross channel ports. It has gorgeous a coastline, pretty countryside, charming towns and villages and atmospheric islands.

About me

I moved to France with my husband nearly 20 years ago, after frequent and cherished holidays here touring different regions. I had a basic level of school girl French when I arrived here but have since immersed myself in the language gently over time. I now have a river-fronted renovated water mill, three happy and thriving children, a healthy and full lifestyle and no regrets. Due to my own experiences, I now help other Brits and an increasing number of French locals to find their new holiday homes and permanent homes in this exquisite and diverse region. I have developed a wealth of experience of the area, and the French system; from language and integration to healthcare, schooling, business opportunities and even construction and renovation.
