The Haute Saone, part of France-Comté, is colloquially known as ‘Le Grand Est Oublié’. And not without good reason! Not only has it, seemingly, been forgotten by Paris but it’s never top of the list for the millions of tourists who flock to the French beaches, the Alps or other popular parts of the country, during their holidays. As a child, traveling in the summer with my parents to the south of France, I clearly remember my dad always saying as we approached ‘Langres’ along the Route du Soleil : ‘pedal to the metal, floor it’ as it is always cold and wet in ‘Les Vosges’ and ‘Le Jura’! Well that might have been true back then but that is certainly no more now. Over the last 10 - 20 years the local climate has a become more Mediterranean, without the Mistral and the oppressive heat more and more common on the Côte D’Azur or the Atlantic. From a traveller’s perspective we are a reasonable 5 hour drive from Calais, 3 from Luxembourg and just 4 1/2 hours from Frankfurt, with Basel (2 hours)our nearest international airport with daily flights to the UK. Les Vosges, the Jura and the Alsace are no more than a 1-2 hrs drive and Dijon, very much the gastronomic capital of France, is just an hour away. If you love farm lands and country side, rolling hills and a great deal of culture and history then I really recommend the Hauto Saone. It’s even possible that you’ll fall in love, like I did, with this stunning and forgotten little piece of France.
I always am very enthusiastic about my properties and I always look for the potential and possibilities a property has to offer. Even if it is a completely dilapidated, half ruin, I still try to see it’s past in which people worked so hard to put the bricks together to provide a roof over their head. To me properties are not cold stone bricks but somebody’s home in need of a caring new owner/occupant. Here in France we have almost unlimited access to many beautiful and potential properties, so there is an ocean of work out there for us who care to match the right home to the right owner. No matter what you’re looking for, we can find it - a Chateau, a Maison de Maître, a fermette, a bungalow, an apartment or just a lovely house - it is our mission to find your match.
