I live in Nerac home of Henri IV in the south west of the Lot et Garonne. The pace of life is utterly relaxed with long, warm summers and short, mild winters. Steeped in history, old world charm is all around and the rolling countryside with views of the Pyrenees is full of vines, fruit orchards and vast fields of sunflowers. The way of life is very traditional and everybody is very kind and welcoming. You will often see ladies preparing conserves, pétanque is as popular as ever, lunch still takes two hours, people still hold up traffic for a chat, and I often wonder why parking spaces are marked out. There are bustling markets every day and every village, club and association has at least one festival every year. In summer night markets are very popular and it’s absolutely fabulous to eat outside and enjoy the live music. Bordeaux, Toulouse and Bergerac Airports are all about 1h15. Agen is 25mins with high speed TGV rail service, A62 motorway, and flights to Paris. The Atlantic coast and Pyrenees, with every imaginable summer and winter activity, are within easy reach and popular destinations for a day out or weekend away. The spa town of Casteljaloux is 25mins with its lake and manmade beach. To coin a phrase “There’s no place I’d rather be!!”
My husband and I moved to Nerac in early 2002 whilst in our late 20’s. Even at that age we felt the need to escape our “live to work” lifestyle and general pressures of life. We were nervous, of course we were, but in all honesty moving to France was the best decision we ever made. We bought a 15th Century riverside Inn and now years later we have two children and our lives are firmly settled in France. I was a PA to an architect for many years and during that time learned a considerable amount about building structure, design and project management. Its time for a change so we are selling the Auberge and I jumped at the opportunity to work with Leggetts and property once again. I look forward to welcoming you to the sunny south west with its gastronomic delights and wonderful way of life.
