My area covers the Morbihan in South Brittany. I live in the heart of Central Brittany just ten minutes from Josselin, with its stunning medieval fortress, ancient Basilica and wealth of half-timbered houses. The Bretons are renowned for their friendliness just as Brittany is renowned for its summer festivals. Perhaps the most famous of these is the Inter-Celtic music festival at Lorient, but there is hardly a town that doesn’t organise something, be it music, dance, theatre, sailing, cycling… you name it, you’ll find it here. Plus, there is the famous tradition of processional Breton Pardons, some still in traditional dress. Gateway to the enchanting Gulf of Morbihan, you can explore the pattern of islands by pleasure boat, or, if you are a sailor, hire a dinghy. Rennes, the administrative capital of Brittany and the nearest airport, is around 50 minutes away by car. Central Brittany has easy access to motorways and major towns offering all facilities. Pontivy, on the Nantes Brest Canal, is 25 minutes away, as is Ploêrmel, where the Lac au Duc offers water sports, man-made beach, restaurants and camping facilities. Malestroit was a centre of the resistance during WWII, commemorated by the museum of the resistance at nearby St. Marcel. Vannes, another lively and historic town is only 45 minutes away. There is also great accessibility for ferry travel and airports: 2 hours from both Roscoff and St Malo ferry ports, 2 hours from Nantes Airport.
I always had the dream that someday we would live in France – I am very lucky that my husband and I have made this dream come true! Having spent several years spending our holidays with our two children in various parts of France we realised what the French lifestyle would have to offer. We fell in love with Brittany and, particularly, the Morbihan region. We decided to take the plunge to move from Northern Ireland and bought our house in 2016. Since we arrived in France we are thoroughly enjoying every moment, and, our lifestyle has certainly changed for the best. On our doorstep there is great walking, cycling and all kinds of outdoor pursuits offering the opportunity for a very relaxed way of life. I previously worked for the National Trust, in one of Northern Ireland’s, leading visitor attractions, Mount Stewart a very impressive historic country house and gardens. During this part of my career I was involved in a major restoration project to bring this country house back to its former glory. Having enjoyed being involved in the intricate management of this project I gained a great deal of knowledge across many aspects of building works. I am now using this knowledge to provide me with the opportunity to pursue my interest through Leggett Immobilier. In this area of Brittany, you will find some of the most affordable and excellent value properties available. We have many properties on offer from renovation projects, charming cottages, longeres, and neo-breton houses to impressive manoirs with acres of land.
