The department of "LA CHARENTE" in the New Aquitaine region in the south-west of France has many assets. First of all, its pleasant lifestyle ( enjoyable climate, calm and bucolic landscapes, hence its nickname in the 19th century of "French Tuscany"), then its geographical situation close to the ocean and big cities ( in particular Bordeaux). Its architecture and history constitute a wealth of riches to be discovered. Angoulême, its principal town, is called the "international capital of comics" and is built on a plateau overlooking the Charente river, which has earned the nickname "the balcony of the Charente". The cost of living is very reasonable and many properties (longères, "Charentaise" stone houses, maisons de maîtres and even manors/châteaux, or more recently built dwellings) are waiting for their new owners.
