I live in Burgundy, more precisely in the 71st department. Our region is known for its Charolais cows. So there are a lot of big farms here with more cows than people in this area. Very rural, small villages with few inhabitants. The villages are often 10 km apart. In between, there are miles of green fields and forests. A very hilly landscape, mainly meadows with cows and crops. But also a lot of forests. Large forests of very old oak and beech trees where it is wonderful to stay on a hot summer's day. A nice change in the scenery that makes it really nice to get around by car here in the area. Behind every corner, you see something different. And it remains beautiful in all seasons, every year. There's never a dull moment. In our region, we mainly sell detached houses in the countryside. Sometimes they are together in a hamlet, sometimes in the village in the shadow of the church. But also regularly large farms with many hectares of land, if the farmer ceases his activity and has no successor in his family. Many of these homes do not yet comply with the latest energy standards. Sometimes there is still quite a bit of renovation work to be done. Most of the houses are not connected to the sewer system and have their own septic tank. But they are all beautiful houses in beautiful locations, built with 80cm thick natural stone walls! Each with its own story. We have beautiful summers here, in this region there are not many problems related to drought. There are many small springs and lakes, which provide enough moisture in the clay soil. The presence of many forests also provides sufficient moisture and coolness in summer. During the summer, the temperature can sometimes reach 30 to 35 °C, but the norm for summer is between 25 and 30 °C. Winters are mild, around 10 to 15°C, with occasional peaks of freezing nights down to -5°C. But in general, you can still enjoy beautiful days until the end of November. And spring sometimes starts here as early as February!
Hello. My name is Greetje Caeyers, I was born in Belgium and I have been living in France since 2008. More precisely in Burgundy. Together with my husband, I opened a B&B with a restaurant here in May 2008. We have worked well together on this project for many years. We've really grown the business into a warm and friendly place where regular customers hang out. Among our clientele, there are many French, but also many Dutch and Belgians who have a second home in the region. In addition, in the rooms we have a good mix of French and foreign guests. People who come to visit their families, people passing through the south, guests looking for a holiday home in the area, or simply holidaymakers who come here to enjoy the peace and quiet for a week. Since 2019, my husband has had health issues, which means he can no longer work full-time in the company as a cook. As a result, we scaled back a bit, which freed up more time for me to look for a job. And that's how I ended up at Leggett. In the many years we have worked here, we have built a large circle of knowledge. The fire spread quickly and this allowed me to familiarize myself with this profession. In the meantime, a few years have passed, I have already been able to sell several beautiful properties and I am getting more and more notoriety in the area. Which is of course very nice. I really enjoy my job because I get to get in touch with a lot of people, I drive around the beautiful area here with my car, I look inside beautiful houses, and editing the photos and putting them online is also a fun part of my job as a real estate agent. And the combination with the restaurant and rooms seems to work well. People talk to me when they want to sell something, or they're looking for a property, or they know someone who wants to sell something. And people who come from abroad for sight can spend the night in our B&B. Everything fits together nicely. I'm happy in my job.
