The Pays de la Loire region is made up of five Departments: Mayenne, Loire Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire, Vendee and Sarthe. Bordered by Brittany to the north, the Charente to the south and stretches west to the Atlantic with its beautiful coastline.
The Mayenne Department is the smallest of the five and has a river and town of the same name. Perhaps the least known, but with all it has to offer, including beautiful countryside with forests, rivers and lakes, is quickly becoming ever more popular. There are many towns and villages of interest including Laval which dates back to the 6th century and is set on the banks of the majestic Mayenne river. From here you can take the TGV and be in London in four hours. Chateau-Gontier has a four star award for floral and garden design. Cosse le Vivien has the most uniquely spectacular museum that is a must to visit. The Mayenne is also known as the land of horses, ( the Logo of the area’s council) and has 11 racecourses. From here, we have easy access to the Loire Atlantique’s stunning coastline. Known as the Jade Coast with resorts such as La Baule, the jewel in the crown, boasting a world famous casino, a sandy beach stretching as far as the eye can see and designer shops galore. Also accessible are the popular tourist haunts of Guérande, Pornichet, Batz-sur-Mer and Le Croisic. This magnificent coastline continues south to the Vendee. The Pays de la Loire has a fascinating history and evidence still exists from Roman artefacts and remains, through the Middle Ages which left us with the gift of many medieval towns and villages. In our cities of Rennes, Angers, Nantes and Le Mans, the ancient blends sympathetically with amazing twenty first century architecture and technology. The blend of old and new means we have the opportunity to enjoy wonderful culture, art and theatres, museums and chateaux.
