You can’t help but fall in love with this wonderful property with its grand proportions. It oozes style and authenticity throughout. With exposed stone walls, beams - some exposed, others painted - and tomette tiles of various size and colour, it is full of character. Read more ...

Entering the property through large wooden gates, land and woodland belonging to the house is behind you. You find yourself in the south facing courtyard garden and the house is to your left. The entrance hall is in the centre of the property with wooden spiral staircase in front of you. At the rear of the entrance halls is a door to the rear garden. To your left through floor to ceiling double doors, is the living room (30m2) with cream tomette tiles on the floor and painted beams. There is a feature fireplace with wood burner with floor to ceiling cupboard to the right. The old cupboard to the left hand side is now a doorway leading through to a new shower room. To the right of the hall through floor to ceiling double doors is the kitchen/dining room(31m2) with freestanding units. The room has cream tomettes and a fireplace with wood burner/oven. Continuing through and off a tomette tiled corridor which runs the courtyard side of the house, there are two bedrooms (both 14m2) with views to the rear garden. Both bedrooms have wooden floors, exposed stone walls and fireplaces. You then have what was the old kitchen (17m2) with doors to both the courtyard and rear garden. This room has exposed beams and stone walls, large tomette tiles on the floor and a large feature fireplace. A small hall (5.8m2) gives further access to the courtyard and houses a bread oven. A stone staircase leads up to a shower room with sink and toilet half way up the stairs. The stone staircase continues up to a loft style bedroom (37.4m2) with an attic (18m2) with mezzanine to the side currently used as storage. Continuing through is a large bathroom (18m2. This is shared with the next bedroom but could be divided to create two separate bathroom spaces if desired. The bedroom (30m2) with cream tomettes, has a large cupboard to the side of the fireplace which has a wood burning stove. In addition, there is a walk-in closet. This bedroom can also be accessed from the staircase from the entrance hall. A further bedroom (31m2) has painted beams, cream tomettes, a fireplace with floor to ceiling cupboards either side. The staircase continues up to the second floor where there are a further two bedrooms (both 31m2) with wonderful beams and tomette floors. The bedroom to the left has a storage space. Huge windows to the courtyard (south) and rear formal garden, flood the ground and first floorsof the property with light.
Outside, there are numerous outbuildings of varying sizes. Looking from left to right, there is a greenhouse which is attached to the house. Huge iron gates are to the left, giving access to the courtyard if required. There is a double height barn (86m2) which housed the wine press which is still in situ, a workshop, two tower pigeonniers, small rooms used to store wood and bikes, further stables and barns (126.5m2) with stairs down to a vaulted wine cellar (22.5m2) with two further caves at the end. An open barn with the entrance gates plus a barn (55.5m2) half open to courtyard at the top which gives access to the rear garden and is attached to the end of the house. The rear garden is laid out more formally with separate areas for growing vegetables. There is a large water basin. Gates give views to the fields beyond and there is also double gated side access to this garden.
The small village of Ceaux en Loudun is a few minutes away which has a small shop and bar. Richelieu, the historic walled city built for the infamous Cardinal is just 5 minutes away with all the amenities. Ideally situated to explore the Loire Valley chateaux and vineyards, low cost flights are available from London Stansted to both Tours and Poitiers, both just 45 minutes away and it is just 3 hours by road from the ferry at Caen Ouistreham.
