My area covers a radius around my base in the beautiful historic chateau town of Jumilhac-Le-Grand, extending east from the N21 road, across the border between the Dordogne and Haute Vienne departments, and is easily reached from either Limoges or Bergerac airport, or by road from the ferry ports. Partly falling within the Perigord-Limousin National Park, the area is beautifully green, wooded and rural, but does not lack its modern facilities, for example, St Yrieix-la-Perche has a modern hospital, station and cinema as well as all the shops and supermarkets you would expect. You can choose to live in splendid isolation if you wish, or in a small hamlet, village or town if you prefer, but whatever you choose you will be pleasantly surprised at how well the local government/ commune system works, and how friendly the people can be. Then there is the weather - with shorter winters and longer, warmer summers than in the UK, outdoor pursuits are so much more pleasurable, whether you prefer to be out and about, visiting the many beauty spots & chateaux for example, or to stay at home, lounging on the terrace or growing your own veg. Come and see for yourself – you will be most welcome!
My husband and I moved to France in 2012 when we decided to follow our instincts and move to the area we had come to love over several years of visiting friends here. We have hardly given our old life a thought since we arrived and are enjoying every moment of our new one. If you have any doubts or concerns over whether you could do the same, I will say only one thing – we are doing it and so can you! We had for 10 years run our own business fitting out narrowboats for the UK canals, and for the last 3 years I had been working for a narrowboat brokerage, as a sales co-ordinator. We often explained to people that the brokerage was basically an estate agent for narrowboats, so it seems a natural progression to now find myself working with an estate agent company, with the bonus of the wonderful location! The final catalyst was our own buying experience. We did not, unfortunately, buy through Leggett Immobilier. If we had we would have been helped every step of the way, but I found myself having to research extensively for everything I needed to know. Later, finding Leggett and understanding their philosophy, I instantly knew that this was the company I would want to associate myself with. I very much look forward to helping you find and buy your new home, the way I would have liked to have been helped myself.
