Normandy, the land of the north men, ie. norse men, ie. Vikings. What do we think of first when we think of Normandy? William the Conqueror of course, Bayeux with the famous tapestry, Falaise William's birthplace and home of his castle, Caen where his stronghold was and is until this day, Mont st Michel, a world heritage site, the Pays d’Auge with timbered houses, apple orchards, spotted cows producing some of the finest milk, butter and cheese anywhere, not to mention its famous cider and Calvados. Also the coast with its famous resorts of Trouville, Deauville and Honfleur with its tall gabled houses clustered around the port, painted so often by the impressionists. Chic Cabourg with its associations to Proust, its casino and Grand Hotel. All the places the English know, have learned about and visited. Quiet roads, peaceful villages and low prices compared to southern England. Finally don’t forget the towns, there is a lot to be said for living ‘au pied’ (look it up) being able to walk to the shops, the doctors, library, dentists, schools, restaurants, nightlife, I know because I live that life. So it’s all there waiting for you, rural life, village life, town life, and most of all, a good life.
