Located on the north-western border of the Massif Central la Creuse is one of France's best kept secrets. The Creuse is the 23rd department of France and together with the Haute Vienne and the Corrèze it makes up the Limousin region. Gueret is the capital.
The Creuse has 22 inhabitants to the square km and is the second most sparsely populated department in France. The Limousin is a region that is very green. The undulating landscape it`s alternating pasture and forest. It is a predominantly agricultural region with many rural villages.
With a landscape full of undulating hills, streams, rivers, lakes and forest the Creuse remains virtually untouched by industry making it the perfect place to relax. The Creuse is also known as the green heart of France. The Creuse valley boasts many picturesque villages that have been recorded by many artist.
In this region you will find no major tourist attractions. It is an area where you can enjoy life in the French countryside and nature, tranquillity and space. There are many lakes typical of the Limousin.
The water in the Creuse is of excellent quality. That translates into the presence of otters, who are particularly critical in terms of animal habitat. If you knew that a male otter demarcates a territory of over 16 km clean and undisturbed shores, you can imagine how the Creuse looks.
It’s a area were you can find your dream house for a affordable price. Nowadays the Creuse is still the safest place to live in France.
Many festivities taking place over the summer months.
Limoges international airport serves the area well with daily flights to several UK and other destinations.
I cover the Creuse and Allier/ Puy de Dôme border ( departments 23, 03 and 63)
I was born in Holland and used to work as a nurse in a big Hospital. I always liked the contact with different kinds of people. But after a time everything changed and the contact that I used to have with the patients no longer existed because production was suddenly much more important then a patient so there was no time left for a chat.
My English husband used to work in Renovation/ restoration a great job that needed a lot of care and attention, he carried out work on listed buildings .But wanted to be his own boss. One day we were thinking if we stay ,this will be it so we decided to go for it. Holland had change a lot in a short time, very busy, lots of traffic jams and stress
The choice for France was quickly made. So in 2006 we became owners of two barns in a hamlet just outside of a pretty town in the North east of The Creuse. While waiting for our house to be sold we came here almost every holiday and finally where able to move here with our two daughters (then 10 and 8 years old). They already could speak Dutch and English but learned to speak French very quickly. It’s amazing to see how fast children adapt to a new life style.
The peace, space and beautiful surroundings are sometimes overwhelming. Our French friends made us feel welcome very quickly. The people are so hospitable and friendly. Our daughters and our selves love it here! For us, a dream come true and as we say in Holland, living like a God in France. I am very willing to find your dream home in this beautiful area.
Don’t hesitate to contact me.
