I live in an abundant wine producing area where the countryside is covered with vineyards, sunflowers and fruit orchards. The Lot et Garonne is one of the prettiest parts of the south-west of France with rolling hills, magnificent views, châteaux and bastide towns. The climate is mild and fine - the mean temperature of Agen the biggest town being 56.6°F, or 5° above that of Paris. The annual rainfall, which, in the plain of Agen, varies from 20 to 24 in., is nearly the lowest in France. The population density is just 57 people to a square kilometre. There are markets every day of the week and great vide greniers in the summer months where you can still pick up bargains. My French neighbours have made me most welcome and I often find a basket of freshly picked grapes or plums or, indeed, a sample of the latest vintage, on the doorstep.
I moved to France in January 2000 - what a way to start a new millennium! I was going to start teaching business English, but ended up buying an old farmhouse with a gîte, then renovated another part of the farmhouse to make a second. After having lived life in the fast lane in the UK and travelling all over the world it was bliss. Just painting and decorating, gardening and enjoying life by the pools, when there were no guests. My passion is cooking and I had plenty of time for that. But I missed the buzz and interaction of the business world and when a friend suggested I join Leggett Immobilier in 2007, I jumped at the chance.
