About my area

Why the Gard? Located in the south of France, in the Occitanie region, the Gard enjoys 300 days of sunshine! With a varied landscape, from the rugged mountains of the Cévennes National Park in the north, to the fertile plains of the Rhône delta and the Mediterranean coastline in the south, there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities, from hiking and cycling to swimming and relaxing on the beach. Local produce is excellent and there are numerous markets, vineyards and roadside stalls selling fresh produce throughout the region. In addition, this lesser-known département is home to many historic sites and monuments, such as the Pont du Gard, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Roman city of Nîmes.

About me

My first regular visit to St Ambroix - our local town - was over 35 years ago. Although we've looked further afield for pastures unknown, in 2018 we chose to leave central Manchester (UK) for rural France to make a complete lifestyle change. We've done it, and we love it!
