Outside
Beside the house is a stone cottage, currently with one room downstairs with a fireplace and one upstairs. There is water and electricity connected, but needs total refurbishment. Once completed, this would be perfect for guests, grandparents or a wonderful office or studio.
Adjoining the stone cottage, there are the old stables of the chateau, with earth floor, stone walls and the most enormous beams. This is a wonderful barn, but with a little imagination, could be so much more. Perhaps you would want to extend the cottage?
Above the stables, is the enormous guards room, reached by an exterior stone staircase. This room, with a tiled floor and stone walls is open to the beautiful beams. Is it a games room, party room or an extension of the adjoining cottage?
The next building is part of the ramparts and has an extremely high roof with splendid beams. The grand full height doorway and the size of the building mean you can store all your garden equipment and bicycles here and still have room to drive your carriage in. There is a tiny room teetering over the rampart wall, thought to have been the lavatory. Two stone pigsties stand in front of this barn, and would be ideal as henhouses, as they have previously been used for pigeons, so have wire over the windows.
There is another smaller stable, now used as a summer kitchen, a bread oven in working order (current owners cook pizzas here for parties) and at the back of the house is a vegetable garden and lawn, with mature trees. The two apricot trees are heavy croppers, and there are almond, apple, pear, gooseberry and several lilacs. This garden backs onto arable land which is wheat, maize or sunflower, depending on the rotation.
The small boiler shed at the back of the house has the oil tank and boiler which heats the ground floor with under floor heating and upstairs with radiators.

This really is your own private heaven, with privacy and the peace of a small hamlet, yet the airports of Poitiers, Tours and La Rochelle all give easy, convenient and cheap flight options for UK flights.
Should you tire of gazing at your chateau, the Loire valley is about 40 minutes away, Poitiers and Futuroscope less than half an hour and the A10 motorway exit is about 10 minutes from your door, perhaps the ideal place for a gîte or chambres d’hôte?
